On the eighth day of their Christ the King Novena, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) paused to lift up a nation bleeding in silence: Nigeria, where thousands of Christians have been killed, displaced, or terrorized simply for bearing the name of Christ.
In a powerful moment of solidarity, the bishops dedicated today’s novena intention to Nigerian Christians facing what many now openly call a genocide. “We pray for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Nigeria who are suffering violent religious conflict,” the USCCB wrote.
The bishops’ voice adds solemn weight to a growing chorus of prominent Americans who have refused to stay quiet. President Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz, rapper Nicki Minaj, Pete Hegseth, and countless others across political and cultural lines have sounded the alarm on the systematic slaughter of Christians in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, Northern and Southern Regions.
