According to a report by Reuters, an unnamed church official in Kwara State has confirmed that 38 worshippers were abducted during Tuesday’s attack on a local church in the state’s Ekiti Local Government Area.
Speaking to Reuters on Friday, the official revealed that the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of ₦100 million per victim (approximately $69,000), raising alarm over the escalating scale of violent abductions in the region.
The attack is the latest in a series of assaults on rural communities and worship centres across Nigeria, where armed groups continue to target civilians for ransom.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official update on the incident, but local authorities say efforts are underway to track the attackers and rescue the hostages.
The Kwara abductions come amid growing national and international concern over rising insecurity and the vulnerability of worshippers in remote communities.
