Human Rights Watch has called on world governments to take immediate, concrete action to halt atrocities in Gaza and the West Bank, saying justice for Palestinians cannot wait for the signing of any peace agreement.
During the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, leaders from across the globe expressed concern over what was described as “extermination and ethnic cleansing” of Palestinians by Israeli forces. The debate followed new recognitions of the State of Palestine by France, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia.
Human Rights Watch criticized President Donald Trump’s newly released 20-point “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict,” saying it ignored accountability and human rights protections.
The organization urged countries to:
Enforce targeted sanctions on officials involved in violations.
Support investigations by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The statement emphasized that nations are legally bound under the Genocide Convention to prevent further atrocities.
Human Rights Watch condemned recent U.S. sanctions against ICC judges, Palestinian rights groups, and a United Nations expert. The organization stressed that respect for human rights should not depend on diplomatic peace plans but on urgent international enforcement of justice.
“The time for statements has passed,” the report declared. “Governments must act now to uphold the principles of international law and protect Palestinian civilians facing annihilation.”
