Pope Leo XIV on Thursday morning received the President of the Republic of Fiji, Ratu Naiqama Tawakecolati Lalabalavu, in audience at the Apostolic Palace as part of his official visit to the Holy See.
In a warm and cordial exchange, the President conveyed greetings from the government and people of Fiji, and presented a letter inviting the Holy Father to visit Fiji.
Following the audience with the Holy Father, President Lalabalavu met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Secretary of State, who was accompanied by Msgr. Daniel Pacho, Undersecretary for the Multilateral Sector of the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, with both parties expressing satisfaction over the good bilateral relations between the Holy See and Fiji. They also acknowledged the valuable contribution of the Catholic Church to the life and development of the island nation.
Discussions further addressed key socio-political issues affecting Fiji, with special emphasis on environmental protection and efforts to combat transnational crimes.
The visit underscored the Holy See’s ongoing commitment to dialogue and cooperation with Pacific nations in promoting peace, justice, and the common good.
