The Enugu Diocesan Secretariat on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, held its End-of-Year Meeting and Christmas Party at the Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Ogui, Enugu. The event brought together staff of the Secretariat for reflection, planning, appreciation, and festive celebration as the 2025 work year drew to a close.
The programme commenced with opening prayers led by the Diocesan Secretary and Chancellor, Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, followed by the traditional presentation of kolanuts. The meeting agenda was presented by the Chancellor and unanimously adopted, while the minutes of the previous meeting were read by the Secretary, Sr. Theresa Anosikwa, and duly approved by members.
Addressing the gathering, the Auxiliary Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, underscored the central role of the Secretariat as the administrative hub of the Diocese. He urged staff to view their duties as a vocation and divine assignment, calling for renewed diligence, integrity, and commitment. The Bishop expressed gratitude to the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Onaga, for the recent salary increment and encouraged staff to reciprocate with dedicated service. He also offered prayers for deceased members of staff and invoked God’s blessings on all present.
Following the formal meeting, activities transitioned into the Christmas Party segment, which featured carol singing, a News Panorama presentation by the Communications Department, drama, cultural dance performances, and an entertaining egg race competition that added colour and excitement to the celebration.
As part of the event, gifts were presented to outstanding staff members in recognition of commitment and punctuality across departments.
Winners in the Most Committed Category included: Ifeoma Obi (Secretariat), Dozie Meniru (Jubilee Hall), Moses Bassey (Block Industry), Chinedu Innocent (JDPC), Peter Eneonyia (Education Secretariat I), Helen Ugwu (Education Secretariat II), Benjamin Ikenna Ume (Security), Evan Dominica Nwankwo (Marriage and Family Life Commission), Nkechi Odette (Marriage Tribunal), Faustina Obieze (Ndubuisi Health Insurance), Njideka Anibueze (Bulletin), Chimezie Okpala (Press), Chinonso Aniede (Choice Flame Newspaper), Bridget Nwakaego Chime (Finance Office), and Ngozi Ogbo (Domus Sancti Spiritus Guest House).
In the Most Punctual Awards category from the Secretariat, Ugwuozo Luke emerged first, followed by Anikputa Innocent and Izueke Basil. Mr. Nnadi Benette received the punctuality award from the Communications Department.
Winners of the egg race competition were also honoured, with Abu Edith of Health Insurance taking first place, Mbah Oluebube of Communications second, and Ebuka Chime of JDPC third.
The celebration further featured a birthday ceremony in honour of Miss Mercy Ekuma, who received prayers and gifts from colleagues. The Secretariat also formally welcomed one of the newly ordained deacons of the Diocese, Rev. Joseph Afam Ugwu, who has been posted to Domus Sancti Spiritus Guest House.
In his closing remarks, Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie expressed gratitude to staff, directors, and members of the Christmas Planning Committee for their cooperation and dedication throughout the year. He announced that the Secretariat would close for the Christmas break on 22 December and reopen on 7 January, disclosed that a Christmas bonus would be added to staff salaries, and advised all to observe safety measures while travelling for the holidays.
The event concluded with closing prayers led by Rev. Fr. Mike Okoh and a shared meal, marking a joyful end to the 2025 work year and ushering in renewed hope and commitment for 2026.
