Bishop Ernest Obodo Graces Enugu State Carol of Nine Lessons 🎄✨

The Enugu State Carol of Nine Lessons was held on Monday, 22 December 2025, at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, drawing government officials, church leaders, and members of the Christian community into a solemn and joyful celebration of the Christmas season.

The annual event, set against the spirit of the Christmas, reflected on the mystery of Christ’s birth through Scripture readings, prayers, and soul-lifting choral renditions. It brought together leaders from government and the Church in a show of unity, thanksgiving, and hope as Christmas approached.

Top government officials were in attendance, including the Governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chidiebere Onyia. Also present were the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uche Ugwu; the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Barr. Ugochi Madueke; Hon. Commissioner Uche Anya; Hon. Dr. Ifenyima Osheku; the Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Service, Dr. Ike Chioke; and the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Benjamin Osita Okoh.

The Church was well represented at the carol service. In attendance were the Auxiliary Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu and Enugu State Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), His Lordship, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo; and the Archbishop of the Anglican Province of Enugu and Bishop of Enugu North Diocese, His Grace, Most Rev. Sosthenes Eze, who led the opening prayer and delivered the exhortation and the Word of God. Other clergy present included Most Rev. Daniel Olinya, the Anglican Bishop of Eha-Amufu; the Vicar General of Enugu Catholic Diocese, Msgr. Geoffrey Aguigwo; Rev. Fr. John Amadi; Rev. Fr. Stan Zeowa, Dean of Agbani Deanery; and the Mother General of the Daughters of Divine Love (DDL), Rev. Sr. Anastasia Dike.

The carol service was enriched by inspiring musical performances from the Holy Ghost Cathedral Choir, Glorious Singers, African Vocals, the Cathedral Church of the Good Shepherd Choir, and Choda Chorals, whose renditions added beauty and reverence to the celebration.

The programme was anchored by the Master of Ceremonies, Lorenzo Menakaya. The event came to a close with a prayer by Bishop Ernest Obodo, who also delivered a vote of thanks, commending the Enugu State Government for its efforts and praying for continued peace, progress, and development in the state.
