Pope Leo XIV paid a solemn visit to the site of the 4 August 2020 Beirut Port explosion, which claimed over 200 lives and injured more than 7,000 people. Standing before a marble memorial inscribed with the names of the victims, the Pope paused in prayer, honoring the memory of those lost in one of Lebanon’s most devastating tragedies.
He laid a wreath at the monument before meeting survivors and grieving families, many of whom held photographs of their loved ones. The moment underscored the Holy Father’s closeness to the people of Lebanon as they continue to seek healing, justice, and renewal.
