A woman from Northern Ireland has met the 5-year-old boy whose life she transformed by donating her kidney. Aly Coyle, a pilot, was overjoyed to finally meet Xaviar, describing the reunion as “very emotional.”
“It was touching—both his mum and I were in tears, and he looked a little bewildered by all the emotion,” Aly said.
Aly was inspired to donate her kidney after failing to match with a friend in need. “I thought, if it was someone in my family who needed a kidney, I’d hope someone would do the same,” she explained.
While it’s not usual for donors to meet recipients, Aly reached out to Xaviar’s family in London, sending a note and a toy plane from her airline. “I was curious to see where my kidney had gone. Knowing it was helping him and improving his life was incredible,” she added.
For Xaviar’s mother, Hira, meeting Aly in person was profoundly moving. “When she sent a card, I couldn’t stop crying. Meeting her in person and hugging her—it was overwhelming,” Hira said. She described Aly as “an angel” and said she is now considered part of their family.
Before the transplant, Xaviar struggled with eating and lacked energy. Now, he happily says he can run “really fast,” thanks to Aly’s selfless act. Hira hopes their story inspires others to consider the life-changing impact of organ donation.
