The Three Comings of Christ: Which One Are You Missing? 🌟
(St. Bernard of Clairvaux is about to wreck your cozy Christmas vibes in the best way possible.)
Imagine this:
Christ comes to us in three times, says the great 12th-century monk St. Bernard of Clairvaux.
The First Coming – that tiny Baby in Bethlehem, 2,000 years ago. Cute, cuddly, Instagram-worthy.
The Last Coming – when Jesus returns in glory splits the sky, trumpet sounds, game over. Epic.
But here’s the one we keep forgetting…
The Middle Coming – right now, today, in this very moment, in the sacraments of the church.
Christ wants to be born in you. Not in a manger this time, but in the messy stable of your heart.
St. Bernard says Advent isn’t just “getting ready for Christmas.” It’s God saying:
“Make room. I’m coming quietly, gently, knocking on the door of your soul. Will you let me in before the world ends and it’s too late?”
Advent is spiritual pregnancy.
Four weeks of longing, waiting, stretching, preparing for God to be born anew in us.
Mary carried Jesus in her womb.
Now He wants to be carried in yours.
So light those candles.
Open that Bible instead of just Netflix.
Sit in silence for five minutes (yes, you can survive it).
Say yes to the Middle Coming.
Because if we skip this one, the First is just a sweet story and the Last one will terrify us.
This Advent, let’s not just decorate the house.
Let’s let Jesus redecorate our hearts.
