The story of Servant of God Chiara Corbella Petrillo, who refused cancer treatment during her pregnancy, wrote this beautiful letter to her child just before her death.
There are some people who do not just pass through this world, they leave footprints on souls. Chiara was one of them. She was a young Italian woman married to the love of her life, Enrico. Their home was built on faith, prayer, and hope, but life tested them early. Their first two children were born and left almost immediately. Grief came quietly and refused to leave. Yet instead of turning away from God, they held Him closer. Then came hope again. Chiara was pregnant with another child, little Francesco. But just when joy was settling in, she received news that would shake any heart, she had cancer. The doctors advised her to begin treatment immediately, but the medicine could harm the baby, so they told her she had to choose. Her life or her child’s life. Chiara did not see it as a choice between two lives, she saw it as a chance to protect one. For her, Francesco was not just a pregnancy. He was already life and she was willing to wait. So she carried her son to full term. Some did not understand her decision, but as we sometimes say, some choices no be head decision, na heart matter. Francesco was born healthy. Only then did Chiara begin her treatment, but the illness had already gone far. Still, she remained peaceful. Still, she believed. Before she passed, she and her husband wrote their son a letter. Not a letter about fear but a letter about love. They told him that love is the center of life, that we are born from love, we live to give love, and we return to God through love. They told him that nothing truly belongs to us, not people, not time, not tomorrow. Everything is a gift. They told him not to be afraid when life takes something away, because when God allows loss, it is only to prepare something deeper. They spoke of his brother and sister and how their short lives taught them not to fear death. They spoke of trusting God completely, without panic, without fear. They told him how they married with almost nothing but always had enough, because when God comes first, lack no get last word. They named him Francesco because Saint Francis changed their lives, and they hope Saint Francis will be an example to him too.

“We know you are special and that you have a great mission. The Lord has always loved you and will show you the way if you open your heart to Him.
