Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni Condemns the Religious Killings in Nigeria

On Friday November 21, 2025, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni posted a statement on X condemning the religious violence against Christian communities in Nigeria, including attacks like the church assault in Eruku, Kwara State, the abduction of over 25 schoolgirls and teachers in Kebbi State, and the kidnapping of over 300 students and teachers in Niger State.

This comes amid a wave of kidnappings, killings, and raids by armed militia groups and extremists in northern Nigeria.

The statement read, “We firmly condemn the renewed violence that occurred today against Christian communities in Nigeria. Religious freedom is an inviolable right: we call on the Nigerian government to strengthen the protection of Christian communities and all religious communities and to prosecute those responsible for these heinous attacks. Italy expresses all its closeness to the victims and the communities in Nigeria who today feel in danger because of their religious beliefs.”
