Godfrey Okoye University (GOUNI) has once again made history on the West African debating stage with a stellar showing at the 2025 West African Universities Debating Championship (WAUDC) — one of the continent’s most prestigious intellectual competitions.
Over two weekends in November, top universities from across West Africa battled fiercely in logic, argumentation, and public speaking. Representing GOUNI, members of the GOUNI Debating and Intellectual Development Club (GOUNIDC) delivered a groundbreaking performance that pushed the university to new heights.
The dynamic duo of Ojiako Amarachi Judith and Egbogu Favour Ogechukwu advanced to the semi-finals, marking a major leap forward for the university’s debating legacy. Even more impressively, Amarachi Ojiako reached the finals of the Public Speaking category, a first in GOUNI’s history — breaking the record set during the university’s debut at WAUDC just last year, when the team reached the quarterfinals.
Crowning this achievement, Amarachi Ojiako was ranked the 8th-Best Public Speaker in West Africa, a testament to her eloquence, critical thinking, and command of persuasive expression.
This outstanding performance by the GOUNIDC team reflects the spirit of excellence, discipline, and intellectual courage that define Godfrey Okoye University. From quarterfinalists to finalists in just one year, GOUNI’s ascent on the regional debating stage signals a bright future ahead.
