At least four farmers have been killed and several others remain missing after renewed attacks by suspected armed herders in Oglewu District, Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State.
According to local reports, the attackers struck on Monday and Tuesday, targeting villagers working on their farmlands. Residents say the community now lives in fear as the assailants continue to operate freely.
“They killed two farmers on Monday and another two on Tuesday afternoon. Some people are still missing, and by 5 p.m. they invaded again,” one local told reporters. Authorities have since deployed security personnel to the area.
Repeated attempts to reach the Benue State Police spokesperson, DSP Udeme Edet, were unsuccessful as calls and messages went unanswered.
Benue has faced relentless herder-farmer violence in recent years, with local governments such as Guma, Makurdi, and Logo frequently under attack. In June, more than 200 people were killed in Yelwata, Guma LGA, sparking national outrage and prompting a visit from President Bola Tinubu — yet the killings persist.
