The Rector of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, Prof. Gozie Solomon Ogbodo, today marked his first anniversary in office with a colourful thanksgiving celebration that drew dignitaries, academic leaders, royal fathers, students, and friends from far and near.

Before his appointment as Rector, Prof. Ogbodo served as the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu — a role that prepared him for his current leadership of one of Nigeria’s foremost tertiary institutions.
The event, held at the IMT International Conference Centre, began with an opening prayer by Rev. Fr. Peter Oforji. A brief address by Prof. Ogbodo followed outside the conference venue, where a traditional kola nut presentation was made to symbolize peace and unity in the academic community.
Guests, including heads of departments, deans, members of the press, and invited dignitaries, were later led to the commissioning of six landmark TETFUND projects. Among these were the Chemical Engineering Laboratory Complex, the Communication and Arts Building, and the General Studies Auditorium — all significant milestones in the ongoing transformation of IMT.

A special highlight of the day was the unveiling of a symbolic art installation at the institution’s main gate, paying tribute to IMT’s rich artistic heritage. The Secretary to the Government of Enugu State, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, graced the occasion, alongside several traditional rulers whose presence added cultural elegance to the event.

Returning to the main hall, the Commissioner for Innovation, Science, and Technology, who chaired the ceremony, delivered a goodwill message commending Prof. Ogbodo’s visionary leadership. The Archbishop of the Anglican Communion, Enugu Diocese, also gave an inspiring address urging continued collaboration between academia and moral leadership for societal growth.
The event featured music performances, operatic renditions, and light refreshments. It culminated in the cutting of the anniversary cake, led by the visiting bishop, in a moment that encapsulated the joy and gratitude of the day.
Awards of recognition were presented to deserving individuals, including Prof. Gozie Ogbodo, for his outstanding contributions to academic excellence and institutional advancement within just one year of stewardship.
As the celebration drew to a close, a sense of pride filled the air. Attendees left with renewed optimism, echoing one shared sentiment — that IMT, under Prof. Gozie Ogbodo’s leadership, is on a path of renewed growth, innovation, and excellence.
