The iconic La Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona has officially become the tallest church in the world. Rising 535 feet above the city skyline, the basilica has surpassed the Ulm Minster in Germany, which previously held the record.
Construction of La Sagrada Familia began in 1882 and continues to this day, funded largely by tourist donations. When its central tower dedicated to Jesus Christ is completed, the masterpiece designed by architect Antoni Gaudí will reach nearly 570 feet, symbolizing its creator’s vision of a structure that bridges heaven and earth.
