Pope Leo XIV held a private audience on Thursday with Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Gabonese Republic, at the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican, the Holy See Press Office announced.
The encounter, described as “cordial,” underscored the strong diplomatic relations between the Holy See and Gabon. President Oligui Nguema later met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin, joined by Monsignor Daniel Pacho, Undersecretary for the Multilateral Sector of the Section for Relations with States and International Organizations.
Discussions focused on Gabon’s domestic political and socio-economic landscape, with particular emphasis on the Church’s contributions to healthcare, education, and youth vocational training. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to continued collaboration in these critical areas.
The talks also addressed regional and global issues, stressing the need for dialogue and reconciliation among nations to foster lasting peace.
