On Monday, October 13, 2025, Holy Ghost Cathedral in Enugu was alive with faith and fervor as her parishioners gathered in large numbers for the Jubilee Pilgrimage of Hope.
The spiritually enriching event, centered on forgiveness, unity, and renewal of faith, featured prayers, confession, a Rosary procession, and a solemn Mass.
The celebration commenced with the exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, followed by an inspiring exhortation from Rev. Fr. Mbah Casmir, Assistant Cathedral Administrator II. In his homily, Fr. Mbah emphasized the importance of compassion and forgiveness, stating, “Because of God, we are called to forgive and promote unity among ourselves.” He encouraged the faithful to embody peace and serve as witnesses of God’s mercy, concluding with a gospel song that uplifted the congregation and set a joyful tone.
The faithful then participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation, demonstrating humility and repentance. Simultaneously, a Rosary procession saw parishioners reverently circling the cathedral grounds, their prayers and hymns creating a solemn yet hopeful atmosphere.
The highlight of the day was a homily delivered by Most Rev. Callistus V. C. Onaga, Bishop of Enugu Diocese, who spoke on the theme of the “Jubilee of Hope.” Bishop Onaga described hope as “the trust we place in God’s promises — especially His promise of eternal life and the help to reach it.” He connected the theme to Jesus’ mission, noting, “Christ came into the world to renew hope for all humanity.”
The bishop also paid tribute to the late Pope Francis, highlighting his life of faith and humility as a model of Christian hope, before concluding with a benediction.
The Mass, celebrated with vibrant singing and thanksgiving, was led by Chief Celebrant Rev. Fr. Daniel Onah and concelebrated by Very Rev. Fr. Raphael Ozonwafor, Cathedral Administrator, and Fr. Mbah Casmir. The liturgy united the faithful in worship and reflection, reinforcing the event’s themes of repentance and renewal.
In a heartfelt vote of thanks, Fr. Daniel Onah expressed gratitude to the bishop, clergy, religious, and parishioners for their active participation. He prayed that the grace of the Jubilee of Hope would strengthen the diocese and renew the lives of the faithful, concluding the Mass with a Jubilee blessing for all attendees.
