The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has introduced a certified brand of altar wine to address growing concerns over the misuse of wines originally meant for liturgical purposes.
Speaking during the official launch, the bishops explained that some of the wines used at Mass had begun circulating in bars and shops for secular consumption. This prompted the Church to ensure that only properly certified altar wine is used during the celebration of the Eucharist.
According to the KCCB, the newly approved wine will be distributed exclusively through Church channels to preserve its sacred purpose and prevent further misuse.
The bishops emphasized that the Eucharist holds a central place in Catholic worship, and therefore, the elements used must remain pure and respected. They noted that the new measure aligns with global Church standards for the proper handling of liturgical materials.
By launching this initiative, the Kenyan bishops said they aim to uphold the sanctity of the Mass and safeguard the faithful from practices that could diminish the reverence due to the Sacrament.
