‎A JOURNEY OF INCREDIBLE SUCCESS DESPITE CHALLENGES: Godfrey Okoye University—the Trail Blazing University

‎An exclusive interview with Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Dr. Christian Aneke, the Vice Chancellor of the prestigious Godfrey Okoye University Ugwuomu Nike Enugu

‎On Wednesday 16th April 2025, the Director of Social Communication Catholic Diocese of Enugu, Fr. Anthony Aneke and and the Director of Choice Flame Newspaper, Fr. Vincent Iwuchukwu paid a courtesy call to the Vice Chancellor of Godfrey Okoye University (Go-Uni) Enugu, Rev. Fr. Prof Christian Aneke, in which he discussed the trail blazing achievements of the university so far—a journey of incredible success despite challenges.

‎The University which had a humble beginning in 2009 has been able to steer its enviable vision into reality despite the difficulties of running a private university in Nigeria. The Vice Chancellor noted that “the University which began with 215 students currently boasts of over 4,000 students and with an initial 2 faculties during its inception (Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences, and Faculty of Management and Social Sciences), the university now has other faculties like Faculty of Education and Arts, Faculty of Law, College of Medicine, School of Post Graduate Studies.”

‎He said that the university has been approved to run a Teaching Hospital and the hospital which was formerly Ntasi Obi Ndị N’Afufu Hospital has now been upgraded to Godfrey Okoye University Teaching Hospital. Worthy of note is that the medical students who took their 2nd MBBS exams had no record of failure. No single student failed Anatomy. The College recorded 9 distinctions in Anatomy. 3 distinctions in Bio-Chemistry and distinctions in Physiology. One of the students recorded distinctions in all the three parts. Despite it’s nascent beginning, the College of Medicine has been doing incredibly well.
‎”The Accident & Emergency unit of the Teaching Hospital is the largest in Enugu and most beautiful too.” It will take the heat off UNTH and Parklane Teaching Hospital and provide quality healthcare to the people.
‎The university boasts of DNA Learning Center which is the first in Africa and sixth in the whole world. This DNA Learning Centre is been gradually developed into Science city where DNA Analysis, Paternity test and forensic analysis would be done. This will help fight crime in Enugu and find the paternity of a child. So Go-Uni is a university that is leading in providing community services.
‎The Vice Chancellor also spoke about the Institute of Caregiving which is topnotch in Caregiving training.

‎While speaking on Education he noted that “Education is not a scam. What makes one knowledgeable is the knowledge you have in your head and not the paper you have in your hand.” The notion that education is scam is self-contradictory since the person saying it is using the skills and logic of education to advance his argument.

‎Prof. Christian Anieke reflected on his journey to the priesthood. By July he would be marking his 25th Ordination Anniversary, which he dubbed the journey of triumphant grace. On the 26th July will be the Anniversary Mass at Holy Ghost Cathedral Enugu while on 27th July 2025, at Go-Uni family will mark the celebration.
‎He finally advised the young people to work hard and have faith in God. He said, “If I can be a Vice Chancellor from a poor family of ten children and my father trained us all through palm wine tapping, then there is not limit to your possibility. We should not lose hope. Let your situation challenge you to do well in life.”
