The 2025 Cathedraticum of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu continued with Udi Deanery hosting its turn on Tuesday, April 8, at St. Mary’s Pro-Cathedral, Udi. The event was presided over by the Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo, as the chief celebrant.
The Dean of Udi Deanery Very Rev. Fr. Dr. Ignatius Emefoh, welcomed all attendees and commended the Diocesan Bishop, Most Rev. Callistus Valentine Onaga, and his Auxiliary for their commitment to the spiritual growth of the Diocese. He also appreciated the presence of government officials, priests, religious, and the entire faithful of the deanery.
In his homily, Bishop Obodo described the Cathedraticum as a time of unity, love, and thanksgiving in the Diocese. He acknowledged the Dean of Udi Deanery Fr. Emefoh, who oversees 38 parishes, for his dedication and leadership
The Bishop emphasized that the celebration is not only liturgical but also communal reflecting the spirit of almsgiving, especially during Lent. He explained that the gifts brought during the Cathedraticum are not just for the Bishop but are redistributed to the needy, demonstrating the Church’s mission of service and charity.
He stressed the importance of accountability in leadership, encouraging both church and civil leaders to be transparent with resources entrusted to them. Drawing from the day’s Gospel, he urged the faithful to cultivate gratitude rather than constant complaints, highlighting God’s unending mercy even in times of hardship.
Bishop Obodo also encouraged deeper spiritual devotion, urging the faithful to turn to Christ, especially through prayer, Eucharistic Adoration, and reflection on the Cross. He reminded all to live with an awareness of eternity while trusting in God through all life’s challenges.
Hon. Cyriacus Umeha, representative of Udi/Ezeagu Constituency, in his brief adress appreciated them for their support towards him, he assured the people of his continued commitment and thanked the Bishop for his leadership. He asked for prayers and support from the faithful as he continues to serve. He also gave financial support to the Bishop and the deanery.
In his vote of thanks, the Vicar General Very Rev. Msgr. Geoffrey Agwuigwo praised the vibrant faith of Udi Deanery and thanked all who contributed to the success of the event. He appreciated the three Bishops of the Diocese, especially Bishop Obodo for his work with Mary Agro Farm, as well as the Deans, priests, religious, Catholic organizations, institutions, members of the Curia, Government Officials,the Diocesan Secretariat and everyone present.
The celebration in Udi Deanery stood as a testament to the unity, generosity, and faithfulness of the people, marking another successful chapter in the ongoing Cathedraticum.
