The 2025 edition of the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation holds special significance as it falls within the Jubilee Year and marks the 10th anniversary of Laudato si’, Pope Francis’ encyclical on care for our common home.
For this year’s observance, Pope Francis has chosen the theme “Seeds of Peace and Hope.” The annual Season of Creation, an ecumenical initiative, runs from September 1—the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation—until October 4, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.
In a statement released Monday, the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development announced that the overarching focus for 2025 will be “peace with creation.” The Biblical passage guiding this year’s reflection is Isaiah 32:14–18, which envisions peace and justice blooming like a fertile field.
The statement emphasized that peace and care for creation are intimately connected—a theme echoed in papal teachings, including the World Day of Peace messages from 1990 and 2010. By contrast, war contributes to the destruction of the environment through the wasteful use of resources and the spread of armaments.
Christians around the world are invited to unite in prayer, asking God to create the conditions for a lasting, shared peace—one that can take root and flourish across all continents.
The image of the seed, the Dicastery noted, reminds us that building peace requires patience, commitment, and hope for the future. In sowing seeds of peace, we nurture not only the planet but also the possibility of a more harmonious world.
