Saint Joseph was born in Bethlehem, circa 100 BC, to a Jewish family of the house of David. His father’s name was Jacob, and he had a brother named Cleopas.
At a young age, Joseph became a carpenter and Mary was betrothed to him, she was a cousin of Elizabeth, the mother of John the Baptist. When Mary became pregnant with Jesus through the Holy Spirit, Joseph initially planned to divorce her quietly, but an angel appeared to him in a dream, explaining the miraculous conception and instructing him to take Mary as his wife.
Joseph took Mary to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born. After Jesus’ birth, Joseph and Mary fled to Egypt to escape King Herod’s persecution. They later returned to Nazareth, where Joseph raised Jesus as his own son, teaching him the carpentry trade.
The Bible does not mention Joseph’s death, but tradition holds that he died in the arms of Jesus and Mary. Saint Joseph is revered as the patron saint of families, fathers, and workers, and his feast day is celebrated on March 19.

Saint Joseph, patron of the universal Church, watch over the Church as carefully as you watched over Jesus, help protect it and guide it as you did with your adopted son. Amen
