Pope Francis’ Health Shows Steady Improvement as He Marks 12 Years as Pontiff

The Holy See Press Office has confirmed that Pope Francis’ health remains stable, with slight improvements, as he continues receiving treatment at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The Pope has been hospitalized since 14 February due to bronchitis, and while his prognosis is no longer guarded, doctors emphasize that he still requires more time for recovery.

A chest X-ray performed on Tuesday confirmed the positive progress observed in recent days. The Holy Father continues to receive high-flow oxygen therapy during the day and non-invasive mechanical ventilation at night.

Despite his condition, Pope Francis has remained spiritually engaged. On Wednesday, he participated remotely in the Vatican’s Spiritual Exercises, received the Eucharist, spent time in prayer, and continued with physical therapy. In the afternoon, he resumed prayer, rest, and respiratory physiotherapy.

As the Pope continues his recovery, today, 13 March 2025, marks the 12th anniversary of his election to the papacy in 2013.
