Born in 1858 in Philadelphia, Katharine Drexel grew up in a wealthy family. However, her life took a profound turn when she met Pope Leo XIII, who challenged her to serve Native American and African American communities.
In 1891, at the age of 33, Katharine founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament, an order dedicated to mission work among Indians and black people, dedicating her life to serving marginalized communities. She established schools, hospitals, and social service programs, advocating tirelessly for their rights and dignity.
She died on 3rd March 1955.
Katharine’s remarkable life of service led to her canonization as a saint in 2000. Her legacy continues to inspire people to work towards justice, equality, and compassion.

Ever-loving God, you called Saint Katharine Drexel to teach the message of the Gospel
and to bring the life of the Eucharist to the Black and Native American Peoples.
By her prayers and example, enable us to work for justice among the poor and oppressed.
Draw us all into the Eucharistic community of your Church, that we may be one in you.
