The remains of Late Mrs. Rita Onuaku Ozoagu (Nneokwukwe), née Odenigbo, were laid to rest on Friday at her husband’s compound in Ezema Olo, Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State. She was the mother of Rev. Fr. Cyrinus Chinedu Ozoagu.
The burial Mass, held at Christ the King Parish, Ezema Olo, was presided over by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga. The funeral Mass, which attracted a large number of priests of Enugu diocese, had the church filled to the brim with family members, friends and well-wishers.
In his homily, Rev. Fr. Jerome Oko reflected on the inevitability of death, highlighting three forms of death: physical, spiritual, and eternal. He described the late Mrs. Rita as a woman of deep faith and service, who lived an exemplary Christian life until her passing at the age of 87.
Quoting Hebrews 9:27, Fr. Oko reminded the congregation that death is a certainty for all and encouraged them to always be spiritually prepared. He also led the faithful in the solemn hymn ‘Eternal Life,’ painting a picture of the promise of heaven for those who live righteously.
Fr. Oko commended the late Mrs. Rita for her positive impact on her family, the church, and the community at large. He urged the bereaved family to take solace in God’s will and in the hope of the hope of resurrection, acknowledging that she left behind a legacy of faith and devotion.
In his vote of thanks, Rev. Fr. Cyrinus Chinedu Ozoagu expressed gratitude to Bishop Onaga, the clergy, and the faithful who attended the funeral to support his family. He affirmed his belief that his mother now rests in the bosom of the Lord, having lived a life exemplifying the virtues of a good Christian mother. Of course, in coinciding with the 14th Febuary St. Valentine’s Day, he described the event as a love burial.
Her remains were interred in the presence of priests, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to bid her a final farewell.
