Bishop Onaga Encourages Collaboration in Enugu Diocese Meeting with Consecrated Life Members

By Chinwendu Nnamani

Members of the Association of Men and Women of Consecrated Life in Enugu Diocese gathered with Bishop Callistus Onaga at Jubilee Hall, Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu, for an impactful meeting aimed at strengthening collaboration within the diocese.

The Vicar for Consecrated Life, Rev. Fr. Joseph Ahukanna, opened the session with words of appreciation, commending Bishop Onaga for the hospitality and support extended to consecrated members in the diocese.

Bishop Onaga addressed the attendees, expressing gratitude for their presence and underscoring the importance of such gatherings in fostering unity and understanding across the various congregations. He encouraged members to attend consistently, stressing that these meetings offer opportunities to socialize, share experiences, and discuss harmonious ways of advancing their apostolates despite differences in traditions and missions.

The Bishop, however, noted disappointment with the turnout, which he said was low given that up to 1,000 registered members of consecrated life—including priests and religious congregants—reside and work within the diocese. He urged more active participation, highlighting that their involvement strengthens both collaboration and peaceful coexistence.

In attendance were top diocesan functionaries, including Very Rev. Fr. Wilfred Agubuchie, the Enugu Diocesan Chancellor, alongside priests and sisters from congregations such as the Saviorites, Capuchins, Notre Dame, Immaculate Sisters, Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy, Daughters of Divine Love, and Holy Rosary Sisters, among others.

The meeting also served as an introduction for new executive members, who will guide the association’s activities over the next three years, and a welcoming of new members into the association, marking another step towards enhancing unity within Enugu Diocese’s religious community.
