The remains of Late Prof. Ignatius Chukwuemeka Onaga was laid to rest yesterday 11th September in his home town at Agbudu, Udi Local Government Area.
He is the elder brother to the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga.
His Lordship described his brother in his welcome address during the mass as an intellectual who exemplified peace, wisdom and was a father to all.
In his homily, the Vicar General Rev. Msgr. Geophery Aguigwo noted that death is not easy to take, but with Christ the concept of death becomes more meaningful.
According to him, “Since it is certain we are going to die, let us not be too busy in life as to neglect the end of our life”.
He further noted that Knowledge and character is what you need to leave behind and not accumulation of wealth.
“No matter our positions and possessions, we are still strangers on earth.
“Many icons, heros and personalities have gone down the grave, we are all going there, therefore tidy up your life, live a charitable life, be just and fair with your dealings with people. Let’s not allow the things of this world take us away from God”, he admonished.
He further urged the family to take heart and know that his journey to the afterlife is irreversible, it is one reflective of the incredible life they gave him.
He also thanked them for keeping to the one month duration after death for the burial of a deceased, being a policy of the Diocese.
He urged all connected to the late Prof. to be consoled because in Prof. Ignatius, they had a loving husband, disciplined man, a gentle and simple person, and intellectual, a man well favoured by God as he lived 81 years and many more.
He urged them to take heart, because he believed that Prof. Is resting in the blossom of the Lord because he lived a good life.
