Monsignor Patrick Ugwu Celebrates 80th Birthday and 50 Years of Priesthood in Grand Style

Mater Dei Parish, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, was a scene of joy and celebration as the faithful gathered to honor Rev. Msgr. Patrick Ugwu, who marked his 80th birthday and 50 years of dedicated service as a priest.

Born on March 17, 1945, Msgr. Ugwu began his educational journey in 1953 at All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, which set him on his path to priesthood. The milestone celebration was highlighted by a heartfelt homily from Rev. Msgr. Anthony Anijielo, who expressed profound gratitude to God for Msgr. Ugwu’s good health and unwavering service. He praised Msgr. Ugwu as a remarkable administrator deeply committed to the spiritual lives of the faithful, ensuring the sacraments were accessible to all. Msgr. Ugwu’s dedication included tireless efforts such as visiting the sick, administering baptisms, hearing confessions, and celebrating the Eucharist.

Msgr. Anijielo highlighted Msgr. Ugwu’s personal touch in pastoral care, building strong relationships with those he served. Known for his significant contributions both structurally and pastorally, Msgr. Ugwu often used his own resources to improve church facilities, earning the nickname ‘Ogwu Aja’ for his ability to tackle difficult tasks with ease. The Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Col Anthony Ozoani, Ph.D., and Barr. Theodore N. Azodo, the planning committee chairman, extolled the virtues of the celebrant and thanked God for his good health. The faithful were treated to a sumptuous meal and lively dance, rounding off a memorable celebration.
