As the Holy Week sets in, Catholic Faithfuls in Enugu Diocese gathered to commemorate the Palm Sunday.
Today marks one of the apex of this sacred period of lent, with a focus on reflection, repentance, and renewal.
Drawing parallels between biblical narratives and contemporary challenges, the Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga in his homily emphasized on the enduring lessons of forgiveness and endurance.
Reflecting on the triumphant entry into Jerusalem, believers are reminded that those who praise can also condemn, underscoring the complexities of human nature.
Throughout the Lenten season, the passion of Christ has been a central theme, but during this week, attention turns to a detailed examination of Christ’s suffering and sacrifice. His endurance in the face of insults and betrayal serves as both a source of inspiration and a call to emulate his example of forgiveness.
He reminded them that in a world plagued by suffering and betrayal, the story of Christ’s passion offers solace and encouragement. Despite facing unjust condemnation and death, Christ forgave those who wronged him, setting a powerful example of grace and compassion.
As Catholic faithfuls engage in Holy Week observances, his Lordship urged them to participate in activities that foster spiritual growth and reflection. Just as Judas returned the money he received for betraying Christ, he encouraged to seek forgiveness and make amends for any wrongdoing.
Buttressing further, he said that amidst the trials and tribulations of life, the message of Holy Week resonates deeply: to find strength in faith, to seek forgiveness, and to embrace the hope of redemption. As they embark on this sacred journey of holy week, he prayed that they may find comfort and guidance in the enduring teachings of Christ.
