As Enugu Diocese 2024 Cathedraticum Tour lands in Udi Deanery, Bishop Onaga Denounces forced Idolatory on Udi L.G.A by the Local Government Leadership

The 2024 Cathedraticum tour continued today, March 19th, at Udi Deanery, marking the Solemnity of St. Joseph, the husband of Mary. Faithful congregated to express gratitude and charity to God and development of the Church in Enugu diocese.

The event saw the presence of the Bishops, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga and Most Rev. Ernest Obodo. Bishop Onaga delivered a homily on the theme of “Grace of docility towards God’s will,” emphasizing St. Joseph’s obedience to divine commands.

Addressing the challenges facing the country, Bishop Onaga highlighted the widespread hardship and suffering, urging believers to remain steadfast in faith. He decried faith challenges in Udi Local Government, condemning acts of idolatry and calling for introspection.

Emphasizing the distinction between culture and religion, Bishop Onaga in a direct rebuke to a seeming forced case of idolatory in the Local Government by the Local Government Leadership urged authorities in the Local Government to uphold constitutional rights and prioritize economic development over idolatrous practices.

In a call to action, Bishop Onaga urged the Catholic Men Organization (CMO) leadership of the Deanery to engage the local government authorities and defend both the faith of the people as well as their fundamental rights to freedom of worship.

Additionally, he encouraged agricultural engagement and reiterated the importance of prayer and truthfulness, while cautioning against gossip and social media misuse.

The Cathedraticum witnessed generous contributions from parishes, groups, and institutions in Udi Deanery, demonstrating a collective commitment to faith and community development.

As Bishop Onaga concluded, he expressed confidence in the Church’s resilience, urging believers to remain united and steadfast in their journey of faith.
