A Grand Restoration: Assumption Parish, Nkwo Nike, Rededicates Transformed Church Building

In a jubilant ceremony that echoed with the resonance of renewed faith, Assumption Parish in Nkwo Nike witnessed the rededication of its Parish Church Building by the Catholic Bishop of Enugu Diocese, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga. The transformative event unfolded on Sunday, December 17th, marking a significant milestone for the parish community.

The parish church underwent a remarkable renovation, receiving a breathtaking facelift that surpassed its former glory. In a Homily filled with spiritual insight, Bishop Onaga emphasized the profound symbolism embedded in the church structure as an assembly of believers. “It symbolizes that God is here, and the believers are here. It is a place we gather to express our faith,” he declared.

Reflecting on the journey of the church’s development and its role in the spread of education in Nigeria, Bishop Onaga delved into its significance beyond the teaching of God. “The church is not just about the teaching of God, but the teaching about life. The church is light, the light of the spirit and the light to progress,” he articulated.

The rededicated church, Bishop Onaga described, is envisioned as a sacred space where humanity coexists harmoniously with the divine—a place of reconciliation with both God and Man, resonating with the spirit of thanksgiving and supplication. “It is also a place we help to coordinate ourselves to live true to the dictates of the church in line with progress and the growth of our spirituality,” he added.

Highlighting the church’s symbolic representation of peace and love, Bishop Onaga urged the faithful to embody the values echoed by the church’s significance. He called on the parishioners to uphold the sanctity of the church not only in physical upkeep but through their lives, actions, and attitudes towards one another.

Commending the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Celestin Chidi Nwaogbu, Bishop Onaga lauded him as a leader with a heart filled with love and a Great Spirit. The dedication was portrayed as a day of restoration for the church, building upon the remarkable progress achieved under the leadership of Fr. Nwaogbu.

Bishop Onaga expressed gratitude for the divine strength and how God restored the health of Fr. Nwaogbu, who had battled a stroke the previous year.

The dedication ceremony, conducted in grand style, also witnessed the administration of the sacrament of confirmation to over 1000 candidates, further solidifying the spiritual legacy of Assumption Parish in Nkwo Nike.

Bishop Onaga further emphasized the importance of continuity and urged the faithful to cherish this moment as a beacon of hope and renewed commitment to their faith.
