In a grand celebration at its main campus at Ugwuomu, Godfrey Okoye University Enugu marked its 11th convocation ceremony, conferring Doctorate Degrees upon two distinguished Information and Communication Technology (ICT) experts.
Engineer Kingsley Eze was honored with a Doctor of Computer Science, while Dr. Obi Ozor, the Commissioner for Transport in Enugu State, received a Doctor of Management.
The prestigious degrees were conferred by the Vice Chancellor of the University, Reverend Father Professor Christian Anieke, and the Chancellor, Archbishop of Abuja Metropolitan, Most Reverend Dr. Ignatius Ayau Kaigama.
Reverend Father Professor Anieke shared highlights of the event, noting that out of the 404 graduates, 12 received first-class honors, 138 attained second-class upper division, 220 achieved second-class lower division, and 34 secured third-class. Additionally, 46 postgraduates received their certificates during the convocation.
He emphasized the fully functional status of the main campus at Ugwuomu, highlighting the provision of uninterrupted power, telecommunications, and water supplies for medical students. The university has also undertaken the digitization of hospital activities and equipped the teaching hospital with modern diagnostic devices.
Reverend Father Professor Anieke proudly announced that the institution’s graduates secured admissions in the Nigerian Law School, performing exceptionally well in national and international competitions.
In his address, Most Reverend Doctor Callistus Onaga, the Promoter of the University and Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu, commended the university’s management and Chief Medical Director for efforts to elevate the teaching hospital’s status.
The graduates were encouraged by Reverend Father Professor Anieke to embody qualities of hard work, discipline, resilience, and a balanced character that reflects a deep understanding of epistemic, religious, and cultural dialogue.
The ceremony also featured the presentation of prizes, including recognition for the best graduate, Miss Somtochukwu Obi, and others who excelled in their respective fields of study.
