In a resounding display of faith and unity, the Catholic Diocese of Enugu held a prayer and rosary rally today, reaffirming their commitment to pray for the betterment of Nigeria and the South East region. Led by the esteemed Bishop, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga, the rally took place simultaneously across the six deaneries of the diocese.
In a brief but impactful homily, Most Rev. Callistus Onaga addressed pressing issues that have been affecting the region and the nation as a whole. He vehemently condemned the escalating insecurity in Igbo land, particularly the actions of certain agitators. The Bishop expressed deep concern over the growing hardship experienced by many families and criticized the prevalence of greed among some individuals.
The Bishop also lamented the instability of the exchange rate, which has brought about additional hardships. On this special occasion of the feast of the Holy Rosary, he recounted the historical significance of Our Lady of Guadalupe during the European war with the Ottoman Empire on October 7, 1571, with unhinged emphasis on the great efficacy of fervent prayer and supplication God in the face of challenges.
Most Rev. Callistus Onaga emphasized the need for wisdom among leaders to identify and address the challenges facing the nation, urging them to prioritize the welfare of the people over personal interests. He also called on the citizens to fulfill their responsibilities as governed individuals.
The Bishop encouraged the youth to acquire skills and cautioned against falling for get-rich-quick schemes, advocating for hard work and dedication. Additionally, he stressed the importance of prayer, reminding everyone that nothing is impossible with God. He urged Christians and Nigerians in general to support each other during these trying times, emphasizing the collective responsibility they share.
The prayer and rosary rally served as a poignant reminder of the power of faith and the unwavering commitment of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu to contribute positively to the well-being of Nigeria and the South East. It highlighted the need for unity, wisdom, and hard work as essential elements for overcoming the challenges facing the region and the nation as a whole.
