Three Bishops, Priests, Religious and lay faithful gathered in their numbers on Friday, the 22nd of July 2022 to bid Rev. Fr. Sedius Igwe farewell. Until his death from a hit and run driver, Fr. Sedius was the Parish Priest of Holy Trinity Parish Amaguugwu, Amechi in Enugu South LGA .
In a homily by Rev. Fr. Marcellinus Aneke titled “Fr. Sedius has left a legacy of faith for us,” Fr. Sedius was described as a rare gem, a saint who has gone home to continue celebrating the Sacrifice of the Holy Eucharist, of which he was on his way to when he met his untimely death. According to him, Late Fr. Sedius understood what Paul said in his letter to the Galatians (Gal 5:16-17). He refused self-pity and pleasure which is righteousness for him unto eternal life.
In reference to a scriptural passage in the book of Ecclesiastes, Fr. Aneke made the congregation understand that there is time for everything, time to be born and time to die (Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 and 20) which justifies that late Fr. Sedius’ time has come. He added that death is a known fact and an absolute truth of nature which everyone tends to run from.
Having lived a life of emulation, Fr. Aneke described his death as a transition, portraying that Fr Sedius’ death brings joy and not sorrow, joy because he lived a good life and has gone to join the saints. Rather than mourn him, he urged everyone to reflect on life and know that every activity in the world will come to an end one day.
The Auxiliary Bishop, Most Rev. Ernest Obodo led the prayer of commendation for the repose of the soul of Fr. Sedius Igwe.
It is good to mention that at the beginning of the mass, His Lordship Callistus V.C Onaga acknowledged the presence of the Most Rev. Florent Kone from Mali and Bishop Anthony Okonkwo Gbuji, the emeritus Bishop of the Diocese.
While urging everyone to stay strong in praying for the peaceful repose of Rev. Fr. Sedius, Rev. Monsignor Anthony Anijielo, appreciated the Bishops of Enugu Diocese, the visiting Bishop priests and everyone who made out time to come and bid Fr. Sedius farewell.
Eternal rest grant to him O Lord, and let perpetual light shine on him. Amen
