PORNOGRAPHY IN MARRIAGE – Right or Wrong?

By Rev. Fr. David Okolie

Recently, we have heard people with the view that pornography in marriage is very useful for different reasons. While this idea may appear truthful on the face value, analyzing it deeply reveals a lot.

The truth is that whenever pornography is embraced in any marriage, the marital love suffers and then UNBRIDLED SEX becomes the order of the day. This could either lead to infidelity or sexual violence; whereby either of the Spouses would want the other to turn to a Porn Star and where this is not always attainable, infidelity becomes a possible option.

Well, anything about Pornography is intrinsically evil and sinful; whether in marriage or in single life. Pornography DESTROYS the dignity of the human person (Cf. CCC, n. 2354). If a Church leader or whoever has ever recommended that, with whose authority did he/she teach such? Very often, such thing is recommended by Social Media Self-Proclaimed Teachers. They are simply out to make MONEY by telling people what they want to hear. Be very careful of them!

Now, there is what is called Moral Absolute in Moral Theology. Moral Absolutes refer to those acts that are INTRINSICALLY SINFUL and can never be made right by anybody or any circumstance. Examples of such acts are: Pornography, Fornication, Adultery, Abortion, Homosexuality, Lesbianism, etc. Moral Absolutes contradict the Divine Law.

Also, sex is designed by God for the well-being of the Spouses and for Procreation and never for the entertainment or gratification of other persons outside the two parties (Husband and Wife). Since pornography, unfortunately, is designed for the sexual gratification and entertainment of people for selfish motives, how, then can it be right?

Again, it is important to note that Pornography can never be a solution to anything because it is not only addictive but intrinsically evil and sinful. Just think about it, can you use what is intrinsically SINFUL to achieve what is virtuous? The answer is NO! Thus, the best option for any person (married or unmarried), is to live Virtuous lifestyle; though difficult it may be but consistent effort that is supported by the GRACE of God leads us through (Cf. Phil 4:13).

By the way, who taught our parents and grand parents how to have sex? How then would you allow somebody to DECEIVE you into believing that pornography will teach you how to have sex in your marriage? Please, do not allow yourself to be deceived further!

Finally, if you have been ADDICTED already to Pornography (whether as a married or single person), know it that all hope is not yet lost. You can still overcome but it will require sincere efforts and prayers. Here, I would recommend DAILY ROSARY. The Virgin Most Pure will surely lift you out of the mess, if you are sincere and fervent in asking for her assistance. You may also wish to go for psychotherapy. But, while the struggle continues, FREQUENT CONFESSION will surely be a good spiritual support.

May God deliver us all from the immoral traps of the devil and his agents. Amen🙏🏽.
