The Catholic Bishop of Enugu, His Lordship, Most Rev Callistus Onaga has called on Nigerians to seek out ways to make the new year a great one for the country and her citizens. Speaking in his new year message, His Lordship expressed optimism that the year will not be as horrendous as 2019 with the hope that certain wrongs will be right this year.
“2020 is here with us, we thank God for the new year and making it possible for us to wither the difficulties of 2019.
“We have to look back and see how best to make the New Year a great one. The great opportunity of New Year is that it gives us all chance to begin again, may our past inform our present. We have made a lot of mistakes that would have landed us into very serious problems, politically, economically, socially as well as in the area of religion.
“The biggest problem of last year was the issue of insecurity and unfortunately it was politicized and was ethnically handled and there was a libel of bigotry in that regard too.
“Government should do something; Nigeria is well blessed with everything. Can we begin to responsibly use this gift given to us for the betterment of the nation? There is need for the government to show us a clear part way and the leaders of the church to show a collective responsibility.
“We have to do something to revisit and re-engineer our education system and to begin to rejig our attitudinal approach to things in this country.
“May 2020 be every way better than 2019, Bishop Onaga Prayed.
